Norma Jean Hoopingarner was born on November 24, 1935, in Hartford, Arkansas, to Rev. Garland Clifford Boswell and Evelyne Boswell. On March 13, 2025, at the age of 89, she peacefully stepped into the arms of her Savior in Hughes Springs, Texas, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

On October 3, 1953, Norma married the love of her life, Richard Lett Hoopingarner, and together they shared 69 years of love, faith, and ministry.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard; her parents, Garland Clifford and Evelyne Boswell; her sister, Dolores; and her brother, Freddie. She is survived by her children: Debbie and her husband Delbert Inabnit of Armona, CA; David Hoopingarner and his wife Dawn of Coarsegold, CA; Linda and her husband Doug Weybright of Prescott Valley, AZ; Pamela and her husband Roger Reece of Daingerfield, TX; Rick Hoopingarner and his wife Sherri of Daingerfield, TX; and Phyllis and her husband Dave Jolliff of Pixley, CA.

She was a cherished grandmother to Amy, Richard, Sondra, Eric, Kristina, Anissa, Erica, Meredith, Tricia, Jarrod, Ricky, Brittany, Kerstin, and Wes, as well as a beloved great-grandmother to many. She is also survived by her sister, Verna Mae; her brother, Joe; her sister, Carolyn; and many nieces and nephews.

From a young age, Norma gave her heart to the Lord and devoted her life to serving Him.

As a pastor’s wife, she played the piano, taught Sunday School, and ministered alongside her husband as they served as missionaries to the American Indian communities. Together, they pastored numerous Assemblies of God churches in Arkansas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Though she never held an official title, Norma was a gifted preacher, sharing God’s Word with passion and conviction. Her love for Jesus shone through in everything she did, and she touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.

She was a wonderful cook, known for her family-favorite tacos and spaghetti. But beyond her talents in the kitchen, Norma was a woman who brought joy and laughter wherever she went—always ready to be silly and make memories with those she loved.

Norma’s legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered until we meet again.
