Funeral services for Ms. Hazel Evans, age 93, of Quitman, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. Β Burial will follow at Piney Cemetery in Harleton, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. There will be a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and lasting until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Hazel Luellen Evans was born February 13, 1930 in Sweetwater, Texas to Archie and Martha Gentry. She passed away January 18, 2024 at her home in Quitman with her loving dogs at her side. Having lived through the depression, Hazel was a strong, resourceful woman. She married young and started a family with her husband, Cecil. They moved to California and both worked hard to provide for their growing family. They eventually made their way back to Texas. Family was important to Hazel. She loved when the entire family could be together for reunions and holidays. She loved her family and her pets, crocheting and working puzzles.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Lynn Luellen and Dorothy Jo Gentry Luellen; her husband, Cecil Leonard Evans; three children, Archie Lynn Evans, Uda Louise Renfrow, Leonard Dean Evans; and three sisters, Margaret Ann Evans, Dorothy Coomek, and Imogene Tawater.

She is survived by four children, Martha Lucille Cook, Virginia Joann Esala, Cecil Wayne Evans, and Dorothy Rena Morse; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
