Agnes Joan Tucker passed away on Sunday, August 25 at The Hospice of East Texas HomePlace following a lengthy battle with lung disease. She was born on Dec. 23, 1927, in Smackover, Arkansas, the daughter of Leah Alford Andrews and Ira Andrews. Her childhood was spent in East Texas, where she graduated from White Oak High School. She married Olen Elton Tommy Tucker on June 17, 1950 in Dallas. They had one daughter Martha Ann and enjoyed 17 years of marriage before his untimely death from illness in 1967. She also was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Glenn Andrews. Joan attended Texas Womens University and graduated from East Texas State University with a teaching degree. She taught elementary school within the Dallas Independent School District for more than more than 30 years. During this time, she made many lifelong friends at Casa View Elementary and other schools. Joan enjoyed antique shopping, bridge, Texas travel and visits to the family home in Avinger, Texas. She was a devoted member of Casa Linda United Methodist Church in Dallas for many years. She moved to Tyler in 2004, where she joined Marvin United Methodist Church. Joan is survived by her daughter, Martha Marty Wiggins, and her husband, Glenn, of Tyler, along with her grandsons Brian Wiggins and Connor Wiggins. Additional survivors include sister-in-law Ruby Pearson, long-time friend Louise Liles and cousins and nieces from the Alford, Sanford and Andrews families. A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, August 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Avinger United Methodist Church, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home of Hughes Springs, with Rev. Brooks Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. immediately prior to the service. Special thanks go to caregivers at ETMC, Meadow Lake Retirement Community and The Hospice of East Texas. In lieu of flowers, friends are welcome to send a memorial gift to the ETMC Chaplains Fund, P. O. Box 6400, Tyler, TX 75711.

  3. I was so sad to hear about your mother's passing. We loved her! She lived across the street from us on Lynford and so sweet to my children. I still have the Easter eggs she crocheted for the kids. One Christmas she gave us a ornament of a fireplace with each of our names on the stockings. I think of her every time I hang it on the tree.
