Mrs. McKinney passed away August 21, 2017 at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas. She was born July 1, 1942 in Cass County, Texas.
From 1967 to 1970 she worked for Thiokol Corp. in Karnack. Since May 7, 1990, she, along with her oldest daughter, owned and operated Kiddie Kampus Day Care in Hughes Springs, Texas. Many, many young children have been blessed by the love and care that she has provided over the past 26 years. Mrs. McKinney was known to most of her Kiddie Kampus children as “Nanna Dot”. She loved her Kiddie Kampus children just as a “Nanna” would. In February of 2016, Mrs. McKinney retired from Kiddie Kampus due to health concerns. Although she could not be present on a daily basis, she would have “Papaw Jerry” drive her over to visit with her kids.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was one of those selfless people that always put your needs above her own. She loved people, ALL people. If you were lucky enough to know her, you were blessed with a forever friend. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jerry McKinney of Hughes Springs; three daughters, Charlotte McCain and husband, Cliff , Tina Hill and husband, Allen, Amy McKinney all of Hughes Springs; three grandchildren, Cody McCain and wife Tabitha, Carly McCain, and Dedrick Hill all of Hughes Springs; honorary grandson, Tradarian Craver; two great-grandchildren, Keely Russell and Brinlee McCain of Hughes Springs; special niece, Anna Mathis of Hughes Springs; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Smith of Hughes Springs, and Linda Lumpkins and husband, Joe of Linden; special friends, Skip and Letha Thomas of Marshall, Noel and June Higgins of Naples.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Wellborn and Ethel Powell Wellborn Rich; seven bothers, Vernon, Dub, Archie, Hack, Wayne, Homer, and Bob Wellborn; infant sister, Darlin Wellborn who died at birth.
The family offers it’s sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center and Select Specialty Care in Longview and the ICU staff at Longview Regional Hospital. A special thank you to Ginger Miller and Chaplain Lawrence Thompson of Heart to Heart Hospice and to Kelly Hodge, her ICU nurse. They all provided Dorothy with loving, compassionate care during her 110 days of hospital stay.
