Funeral services for Mr. Carl Ray Qualls will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Hickory Hill Baptist Church, with Bro. James Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Avinger Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.  There will be a time of visitation with family and friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the funeral home.

Mr. Qualls was born on July 13, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to Charlie Estes Qualls and Luticia Royal Qualls. Surrounded by the peace of his home in Avinger, Carl went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Carl was raised in Avinger, where he began working at the age of 13 at a local picket fence company—marking the start of a lifetime defined by hard work and dedication. Over the years, he drove cattle trucks, delivered oilfield equipment, and worked as a carpenter in home construction.

In 1960, Carl moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served as a Service Manager in the automotive field for nearly twenty years. He also proudly volunteered as an Auxiliary Policeman with the Shreveport Police Department during that time. In 1980, Carl returned home to Avinger and worked at Lone Star Steel until his retirement in 1997.

Carl had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and found joy in sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially cherished summers spent camping at Albert Pike in Arkansas. His greatest joy, though, came from time spent with his family.

A man of steadfast faith, Carl loved the Lord and was always eager to share his testimony of God’s grace in his life. He served faithfully as a Deacon at Hickory Hills Baptist Church—a church he helped build with his own hands and heart.

It was his love for the Lord that manifested so vividly in his love for his wife, Marceile. There is no truer love than that which a true man of God exhibits to his wife, and Marceile was always Carl’s greatest devotion.

Mr. Qualls was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Mrs. Marceile Qualls; his parents, Charlie Estes Qualls and Luticia Qualls; brother, Archie Qualls; sons-in-love, Huey Birdwell and Pat Bascle; daughter-in-love, Amy Qualls.  He is survived by daughters: Lynn Whitton and husband Jeff of Shreveport, Louisiana, Donna Bascle of Avinger, Texas, Susan McQueen and husband Mike of Quitman, Texas; sons: Carl Qualls and wife Cindy of Porter, Texas, and James Qualls and wife Adrienne of Avinger, Texas; grandsons: Ben Ewald and wife Sabrina, Trey Qualls and wife Natalie, Christopher Qualls and wife Carrie, Patrick Qualls, Ethan Qualls, and Sam Qualls; and his precious granddaughter, Kaitlyn Windschitl and husband, Malachi; sister, Joan Prudhome; several other family members and friends.

Carl’s life was a reflection of devotion—to his work, his community, his faith, and most of all, to those he loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests you consider a memorial donation in Carl’s honor to Hickory Hill Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
